A 38-year old woman first came to see me in the spring. At the same time, she was also starting treatment with a fertility specialist as recommended by her OB/GYN. She had low ovarian reserve which was diagnosed with a blood test showing a high FSH level of 12, and a low AMH level of .01. These two tests indicated that it would most likely be quite difficult for her to conceive, and, therefore, her fertility specialist recommended In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) as her best treatment option.

She didn't feel quite ready for IVF, however, so she started coming in for weekly acupuncture treatments and herbal therapy in conjunction with three IUI cycles. Unfortunately, these cycles were all unsuccessful. She continued coming in weekly for acupuncture treatments and decided to go forward with an IVF cycle in November. She had her IVF schedule, her medications had arrived in the mail and she was just waiting for her period to start. But it never did. She was shocked and elated to discover that she was pregnant, having conceived naturally in October! She has continued with her acupuncture treatments and is now 11 weeks pregnant, has had three good ultrasounds, and has been released to her OB/GYN.
